Read the story...
Letter To A Sailor was written as a result of a chance encounter in the Minneapolis airport. A gentlemen by the name of Mike Andre, (Navy, SWCC) sat next to me at the bar. I was flying back home to Nashville. He was on layover deploying. He told me he was a big fan of country music so I shared some of the stuff I had been working on and told him if he was ever missing home, let me know and I would send him some music he'd never hear on the radio. It was a brief encounter. I had made that offer on several occasions. He was one of the few that actually took me up on it.
I would get an email from him on occasion. I would put together a little music care package and send it out. I told him one day I would love to write his song. It had been a few years since I had heard from him when in a conversation with a co-writer I found an email he had recently sent to me (you can read the email by clicking the link blow) asking if I would come to his retirement in Coronado and sing one of his favorite songs. The song was The Longer The Wait (The Sweater The Kiss) by Josh Turner.
Hear Mike Andre tell the story of our meeting, what those musical care packages did for him and his team, and my reply to his requests upon retiring. That is the foundation of this podcast This is the story of A Letter To A Sailor, the song I wrote for Mike Andre and how, with your help, we can give him a retirement gift worthy his service.
